TO ALL MEMBERS OF LOCAL #41, IBEW
Dear
Brothers and Sisters:
In May I attended the 2009 Annual Construction and Maintenance Conference
in Washington, DC. The theme of the conference this year was "Harness the Power."
- To meet the needs of a new green economy, the United States will need tens of thousands of skilled electricians to
wire and install solar panels and wind turbines and retrofit buildings to make them more energy efficient. These workers
are readily available within the ranks for the IBEW.
- To make the United States a world leader
in renewable energy, we need the best-trained and most professional electrical workforce to get the job done, which has always
been the mission of the IBEW.
- The IBEW, the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee
and the National Electrical Contractors Association have developed some of the most advanced green-jobs training programs
and facilities in the United States, and have invested more than $140 million in renewable energy training.
The IBEW and NECA are the leaders in the industry. We have a long and proven track record of training a skilled
workforce with the expertise needed to turn America "green."
We are the brand name "IBEW/NECA"
- We "Deliver the Promise". We are the "Right Choice."
OPEN HOUSE
On
May 28th and 29th, Local #41 had an Open House to show local politicians, educators and Department of
Labor officials how advanced we are with our training programs on Photovoltaics, Wind Turbines, Energy Management, Building
Automation and Retrofits, Programmable Logic Controllers and Demand Limiting. I would like to thank the volunteers and
staff for making our Open House a big success for our guests.
WORK PICTURE
Our work picture continues to look good for the
near future. Phase IV contracts of the Buffalo Schools will start to bid in August; one school a month for ten (10)
months. There will also be a district wide technology contract and a performance contract tied to this phase of the
schools.
Kapor Hall at UB has been awarded and will be starting soon. UB School of engineering
is coming out for bid and will have a Project Labor Agreement on the project. This fall the $283 million Global Vascular
Center will bid, which is a joint venture between UB and Kaleida Health System in the Buffalo Medical Corridor. There
are 12 suburban school districts we will be working on this summer and well into fall.
DUES INCREASE EFFECTIVE JANAURY 1, 2010
The Delegates of the 37th IBEW International Convention, conducted in Cleveland, Ohio in September, 2006
approved amendments to Article IX, Section 2 of the IBEW Constitution. Effective January
1, 2010 the Pension Benefit Fund contribution will increase by one dollar ($1.00) per month. This dues
increase applies to "A" members only.
